Cody L. Dorsey

Executive Director

Cody L. Dorsey is the Executive Director of the Baltimore Digital Equity Coalition (BDEC), working to close the digital divide in his hometown. Mr. Dorsey was selected for this role during a pivotal moment for the Coalition, as his focus has been reimagining BDEC’s role in the community post-pandemic. As Executive Director, Mr. Dorsey has been instrumental in convening stakeholders to shape the future of Baltimore’s commitment to permanently closing the digital divide, as well as across the State of Maryland, including hosting the Inaugural Maryland Digital Equity Day.

Born and raised in West Baltimore, Cody is a proud product of Baltimore City Public Schools, where he served as Student Commissioner on the School Board from 2013 until 2014. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from St. Mary’s College of Maryland. While a student at St. Mary’s, he was nominated by the late Congressman Elijah Cummings to serve on the U.S. Federal Advisory Committee on Student Financial Assistance. Moving to Ireland to attend the University College of Dublin, Mr. Dorsey earned his Master’s Degree in Politics, concentrating on European Politics and Black Women in American Politics. He is pursuing a Doctor of Education in Community College Leadership from Morgan State University.

As a 2019 Baltimore Mayoral Fellow for the Mayor’s Violence Reduction Initiative, he designed a year-round youth employment pilot program aimed at preventing youth violence. Due to his leadership and achievements, he was asked to serve as the Legislative Director of the Baltimore City Senate Delegation for the 2021 Legislative Session of the Maryland General Assembly. In 2021, the President of the United States appointed Mr. Dorsey to the Maryland Selective Service Board.

Cody Dorsey strongly believes that the intersectional issue of digital equity is not just about Internet connectivity, but also about connecting people to economic opportunity. He can be reached at Cody@digitalequitybaltimore.org
