Dear BDEC Community:
Please join me in congratulating Tracey Barbour-Gillett, Program Officer for Community Development at the Abell Foundation – and a very active BDEC Member – on her appointment to Baltimore’s Fair Election Fund Commission! The Fund allows candidates for Mayor, Council President, Comptroller, and City Council to receive publicly funded campaign contributions.
Here is what we know: there is a correlation between digital equity and public engagement, which strengthens our democracy. Often, when we discuss digital equity, we do so considering Internet connectivity, digital skills training, and access to technological devices. Yet, we must also consider the role that these three things play in providing individuals access to participate in our economy and political system. That’s equity.
Tracey – Congratulations! I trust that you will serve with integrity on this very important Commission.
All the best,
Cody
